This venerable club was begun in 1911, "to stimulate knowledge and love of gardening among amateurs, to aid in the protection of native plants and birds and to encourage civic planting and conservation." Membership is by invitation, and meetings are held in varying locations on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from September to July. The group is presently working to maintain the Circle Garden at the John Jay Homestead, on other local beautification projects, the adopt-a-highway program and horticultural education. They hold one open meeting each year on the topic of conservation, and this is announced in the local newspapers.
