The Bedford Association Oliver Hazard Protecting Bedford's historic features and maintaining its rural character and the general quality of life was the reason for the formation of the Bedford Association in 1950. This not-for-profit group actively monitors events and proposals in the town and attempts to evaluate their effects on the area and its residents. Meetings are informal and held as needed. Members try to encourage Bedford to enforce its regulations and take action to preserve the town's rural atmosphere. They also monitor the Bedford Central School District, especially budget and bond issues, to better inform residents about these proposed expenditures. Pioneering the preservation of the land around the Bedford Oak and the Historic District in the 1970's was a prime concern of this association |
