Elois and Bob Swartz PO Box 376 Cross River, NY 10518 232-4517 The Friendly Squares was formed about 30 years ago by a group of people interested in fostering participation, promotion and enjoyment of Square Dancing, and in sponsoring square dancing events and lessons. The group currently has approximately 60 members. They hold square dances every 2nd, 4th, and Sth Saturday of the month from September through mid-June in the Parish House of the Katonah Methodist Church, which is located at the corner of Edgemont and Bedford Road in Katonah. Friendly Squares is part of a network known locally as the Hudson Valley Council, which includes 26 clubs. The group sponsors a beginner course each September. Once these lessons are completed, a person is qualified to dance at Mainstream and Plus levels in any club in the U.S. and in some foreign countries. Attending their events is a most colorful experience because the group dresses in traditional western outfits.
