Bedford Audubon Society, Inc. The Bedford Audubon Society Bedford Audubon Society is a locally based chapter of the 550,000-member National Audubon Society. With close to 1,800 members, Bedford Audubon services much of northeastern Westchester and Putnam Counties. The organization's mission is to promote conservation and protection of wildlife habitats through education, advocacy, nature study and bird watching. Bedford Audubon Society's monthly lectures, generally conducted the evening of the second Wednesday of every month, attract a wide audience because of their top-rate speakers and "cutting-edge" topics. The organization also conducts monthly field trips to destinations within Westchester County and beyond. Programs and field trips are free and open to the general public. Bedford Audubon Society owns and manages 558 acres of land at three sanctuaries in Bedford, Lewisboro and North Salem. Bedford Audubon sanctuaries are open to the general public from dawn to dusk and admission is free. The Society's headquarters, a gracious, circa 1720s farm, known as Bylane, is located on Todd Road in Katonah. It is surrounded by 320 acres of protected Audubon lands. Bylane was gifted to the Society in 2001 through The Bedford Audubon Society's local activities are supported by membership dues, and by donations from individuals, corporations and foundations.
