The library was originally established and funded by the Katonah Village Improvement Society in 1880. The present building opened in 1930, and an addition was added in 1968. Currently the Town of Bedford provides approximately 85% of the budget, and the remainder is solicited through fund raising. Since this is a public library, local or Westchester County residents may use its facilities, and for a small fee out-of-county residents may use it also. The library provides educational, recreational and informational sources, and programs for the people of the town, county and surrounding areas. They offer free Internet access and twice-weekly Internet training. Twelve trustees serve on the library board. The Friends of the Library have established an ongoing volunteer shelf reading program. They keep all books in order for the public. The Children's Program includes story hours, special appearances, book clubs and much more. Adult hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 10 AM - 8 PM, Tuesday 10 AM -6 PM, and Friday 10 AM - 5:30 PM and Saturday 10 AM -5 PM The Children's Room is open on Monday 10 AM -8 PM , Tuesday through Friday 10 AM - 5:30 PM.and Saturday 10 AM - 5 PM.
