Westmoreland SanctuaryStephen A. Ricker Westmoreland Sanctuary, a museum and nature center, was established in 1957. A reconstructed 200-year-old former Presbyterian Church was dismantled and rebuilt at the Chestnut Ridge Rd. entrance. On the grounds is an outdoor lecture area, a center for maple sugaring, and an old cemetery. The Sanctuary, which consists of 625 acres, offers many classes for school children and the general public. The annual Fall Festival is held each year on the 3rd Sunday of October, which is a treat of craft vendors, pony rides and entertainment. The trails are open from dawn to dusk, and the museum hours are Monday-Saturday 9 AM - 5 PM and Sunday 10:30 AM - 5 PM Membership is $20 for a student, individual $30 and family $60. No pets are allowed on the premises. |
